But gamble they did because like the Organiser, they all wanted to make a strong statement that it was time for change.

New Show bloomed in the park

There has probably never been a more significant event in the UK Exhibitions Calendar. The introduction of an alternative show to the established Hi-Fi News show in the autumn was highly controversial. Even as seasoned Organisers we couldn’t have predicted the politics and repercussions it would cause. But despite all of this it was by any stretch of the imagination a total success.

An organiser has to be gambler, it goes with the territory; but to also ask potential exhibitors to gamble is a big undertaking. But gamble they did because like the Organiser, they all wanted to make a strong statement that it was time for change.

The show was run over three days with one trade and two public days, with the trade day being the greatest concern given the poor handling of their interests in the past. We had also vowed that every attempt would be made to make Friday purely trade. In fact we had 734 genuine trade visitors, many from overseas and we are confident that this can now be considerably grown. We had planned for 250!

Attendance on the Saturday and Sunday was also excellent for this the first year of the show. Although we had a lull between 11-12 on the Sunday, attendance on both days was very similar.

Saturday: 1350 attendees / Sunday: 1250 attendees

As always with our attendance figures they are 100% honest, as they must be. We had planned for 1500 over the two days!

Dates for next years show and also 2008 are already set so be sure to make a note in your diary!

21 – 23 September 2007
18 – 21 September 2008

For 2007 the great news is that the London Sound & Vision show & the Park Inn Heathrow will have a brand new business wing to exploit, which will increase the amount of large suites by seven, clearly setting it out as an International show.

Our next step is to set up a steering committee to ensure that the future of the show is safeguarded and that at all times we have your best interests always in mind.

Significant events?

Our decision not to charge visitors who’d attended the Hi-Fi News show was well received. Visitors were arriving from that show within one hour of it opening.

Many visitors came back on the Sunday and took advantage of our two-day ticket (these are not included in the Sunday total).

Many compliments were received in regards to the excellent service from the Venue staff.

Our attendance figures are based on a ticket count – due to the pressure on our two reception desks we definitely lost visitors who got in without paying, always a risk with Hotels and multiple entrances. Our loss but your gain as they say.

To end, I’m sure that everybody who attended will be looking forward to next years show just as much as we are. Roy and Chesterfield Communications would like to thank all of the Exhibitors and its sponsor Hi-Fi World. Without you the show would never have seen the light of day.

Thank you!!
