Clearaudio’s Revolutionary Ceramic Magnetic Bearing Upgrade Available Now
Since introducing the Magix2 magnetic suspension device over four years ago, Clearaudio have extended their research into the use of magnetism in turntables.
Some magnetic bearing designs have been released previously but, until now, have suffered from the same problems: how to handle the magnetic field and its very negative influence upon cartridges, tonearms and cables.
Clearaudio has solved this severe problem:
1. The turntable main bearing shaft is non-magnetic. Clearaudio use an exclusive new ceramic alloy, with a much finer polished surface than that previously used in bearings. This reduces friction in the bearing by a factor of 10. This patented design prevents magnetic field being transferred to and through the spindle and therefore onto the surface of the record.
2. Clearaudio use a special shielding material between the bearing housing and the upper magnet, thus preventing the magnetic field from being distributed to other critical areas, such as in the vicinity of the cartridge. This design feature is also patented.
The ball bearing is no longer required. (There are some magnetic bearings that still use a ball bearing.) The Clearaudio Ceramic Magnetic Bearing design does not, thus avoids any point of load within the bearing and so eliminates bearing friction, wear and noise.
All existing and previous Clearaudio turntables, except the Clearaudio Emotion, can be upgraded with a Clearaudio Ceramic Magnetic Bearing. New Clearaudio turntables may be ordered ready fitted with Ceramic Magnetic Bearings, replacement bearings can be purchased separately or the exchange scheme can be used to receive a refund upon return of the old bearing.
